The interactive map you find below was developed by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) of the American Johns Hopkins University (in Maryland), to monitor in real time the spread of the virus, indicating confirmed cases of contagion, deaths, hospitalizations and number of people divided by country infected with the virus.

The data sources , which make up this map, come from: WHO (World Health Organization), CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - USA), ECDC (European Center for Disease Prevention and Control), CCDC (Chinese Center for Control and Disease Prevention), NHC (National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China) and DXY (a Chinese website that integrates reports on the situation from the NHC and CCDC)
Coronavirus was initially the name most used to define the virus discovered in Wuhan, a Chinese city with 11 million inhabitants, the capital of the province of Hubei . This virus is the cause of an infection of the respiratory tract , which in some cases worsens in pneumonia, which can be lethal.
The disease that is contracted by this virus has taken the nomenclature of COVID-19 , which is the abbreviation decided by the WHO (World Health Organization), where " CO " stands for "crown", " VI " for viruses and " D "For the English word" disease "(which means disease), while" 19 "indicates the year in which it was identified.
The abbreviation SARS-CoV-2 , on the other hand, identifies the virus that causes the disease COVID-19 . With "SARS" indicates " severe acute respiratory syndrome " (which is derived from "severe acute respiratory syndrome").
The Chinese coronavirus first made its appearance in the city of Wuhan on December 31, 2019 , kicking off an epidemic that has crossed national borders. Coronaviruses were first identified in the mid-1960s. The primary target cells are the epithelial cells of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract.
